Torrent is a Bit Torrent file distribution system, it contains metadata within it about files and folders, and also a list of the network locations of trackers. It actually does not contain the content. It only contains information about files, such as names, sizes, folder structure,etc. These are named with the extension .torrent.

Torrent files can contain any file like games, movies, software, pdf's, etc. First torrent file should be downloaded for respective software, games, movies, etc. And then it should be uploaded in a software like  "µTorrent" , "ilivid", etc.
